Programmes

Bachelor of Arts Honours in Visual Communication

Requirements

  • Relevant undergraduate qualification (NQF 7 level) with theoretical and practical components in Visual Communication.
  • Preliminary proposal, motivation, portfolio, CV, and academic transcripts.
  • Selection interview required.
  • International applicants: SAQA verification of NQF level and minimum 55% in OW English Literacy test.
  • OW students: Minimum 65% in Visual Culture 300 or Film Theory 300 and a practical major.
  • Additional Requirements
  • Academic transcript showing similar subjects and marks for applicants from other institutions.

Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Practice

Requirements

A relevant Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7 or 8) or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) that includes both a theoretical and practical component relating to Creative Practice. 

Please take note of the following preferences:

  • OW applicants must have obtained a minimum of 50% in both the theoretical component (Film Theory/Visual Culture) and practical major of their respective courses.
  • External applicants must provide an academic transcript conveying similar subjects and marks. An application interview may be required for external applicants.

  • Bachelor of Film Arts

Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate (NSC) or National Certificate (Vocational) NC(V) with Degree admission and English mark of 55%.
  • Senior Certificate (SC) with endorsement and English mark of 55%.
  • NQF 5 qualification (if discipline is not cognate, at least 20% of credits must be academic-related literacy).
  • International qualifications: USAF Exemption Certificate or SAQA certificate indicating NQF 4 qualification with English requirement.
  • Mature Age Exemption Certificate issued by USAF.
  • Portfolio of 3 creative works across any discipline.

  • Enquire on the website, at your school or visit our campus.
  • Book a Career Guidance consultation with one of our Admissions Advisors. (Covers Financial, Equipment, Accommodation, and Career Objectives).
  • Requested Documentation. (Certified ID and results)
  • Pay the R1750 (Non-refundable Application Fee).

Apply

  • After your consultation, the Student Advisor will supply you with a link to our Application Form which you will need to complete.
  • Academic Vetting based on results provided.
  • Receive an Acceptance letter.
  • Generate a quotation based on the acceptance letter.
  • Pick your subjects. (Student Advisor will be available to assist you).

Registration

  • Pay the R12 000 Registration Fee
  • Complete the online registration form that the admission office will provide.
  • You will receive access to the Student Portal to view proof of registration and timetable once your registration is completed.

Please note

  • Students register per academic year.
  • Registration fees are payable upfront.
  • Credit card facilities are available on campus.
  • Costs depend on the study plan selected.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students with relevant prior study, professional experience, or industry training may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This allows Open Window to assess your previous learning for possible credit or advanced standing toward your chosen programme.

The process takes approximately 8-10 weeks (provided all required information is submitted via the portal), with your registration remaining active throughout. All applications are reviewed by the Admissions Officer to ensure alignment with Open Window’s specialisation outcomes.

RPL requests must be submitted at least two weeks before the academic year begins and are only accepted as part of the registration process. A single appeal opportunity is available if needed.

    • Create your pre-portal account (username & password) – Find the links below
    • Log in to access the RPL application form via the Portal Dashboard, where you can complete the application.
    • Please ensure all required documentation is attached

For new & returning OW students

    • Non–refundable admin fee of
      R1 200
    • All required information to be completed on the application

Current OW Students

    • Must obtain an overall average of 65% in the certificate programme to qualify for RPL into one of the OW degree programmes
    • All required information to be completed on the application
